The Resilience of Brilliance

Honestly, I'm not surprised that he's this great again.

Whether it was starting his own wrestling promotion with close friends called OMEGA when he was younger; being ripped off for one of his earliest promo by WCW's Power Plant;  jobbing to the likes of Razor Ramon, Owen Hart, Hunter Hearst Helmsley and the Ringmaster; breaking through as the new tag team on the block with Jeff; joining the New Brood with pal Gangrel; recruiting Lita into their fold to form one of the most innovative and coolest stables ever; setting the world on fire with the first ever Tables, Ladders and Chairs match; reinventing himself to become version 1, and turning a real life drama into one of the edgiest and entertaining feuds ever; the Broken Brilliance persona was simply a long time in the making.

Beyond just those tidbits of his early career within WWE(F), Matt Hardy has been through a lot of ups and downs in his time as a wrestler, but there's one thing that remained the same throughout its entirety, he's always managed to reinvent himself. Every single thing that Matt Hardy has done, career wise, has been something that has drawn interest from fans and peers alike. For me, he was always entertaining when he was tag teaming with Jeff, he was really entertaining when he was going through the whole V1 phase; (that fall is still hilarious today Matt, sorry). Or when he was going through the cruiserweight feuds, trying to keep his weight down, so that he may maintain his championship.

Matt simply knows how to entertain wrestling fans.

That's why when I heard of Apocalypto I already knew it was going to be something, at the very least, great and entertaining. Admittedly, I didn't watch the first iteration live simply because I was busy at the time, but when I did get a chance to, I loved it. That's why when the second iteration, Tag Team Apocalypto, was announced I just knew I had to watch it live with all the wonderful people of wrestling Twitter. I'm glad I did because that was also hilarious and was something completely out of the norm. I know a lot of "fans" were complaining that it wasn't real wrestling and competition the whole time, but personally I thought it embodied what wrestling aims to be at the end of the day, entertaining.

For so long Vince has hired these soap opera writers to produce content and storylines that will draw fans in for the long haul. These same writers have come in and absolutely ruined the way creative is ran; (well what little they could ruin). I've longed since suggested that wrestling storylines should be put together by wrestling talents that have a knack for putting together said storylines due to having experience with what does and doesn't work. Matt Hardy proves that point in the sense that he's been around the big leagues for almost 20 years and has been able together one of the freshest characters and storylines in wrestling today.

Which all culminates in the fact that he's labeled himself broken and brilliant.

I honestly didn't think about his Broken character too in-depth simply because I wanted to enjoy it for what it was; a wrestler that's tired of the norms and wants to just have fun doing what he loves doing best. One of the great things that Dixie is allowing Matt to do, that most other major promotions wouldn't have, is to just go out and be himself and creative something from the heart. If you look at all of the things that I listed before at the top of the column, he created these things from the heart and it all worked out because of it. While the character may come off as just another comedic routine to most, it comes off as precise and calculating to those that know the whole scope of Matt's career.

Matt Hardy was at point where he had enough of what was being given to him and all of the other pitfalls he was going through at that time. He finally reached that tipping point where he just didn't know where to go from there and instead of sulking in his feelings and being defeated, he found out a way to break through that ceiling yet again. The best way of shedding his former gimmick came in the light of "deleting" it. He then realized his full potential and came up which is that of the Broken Brilliance and all of the entertaining name changes and one liners, (sometimes one word), that only he could come up with. This Broken Brilliance character to me is Matt Hardly simply being Matt Hardy again.

And honestly, I'm just glad that part of Matt Hardy is back.

While folks are out there predicting everything under the sun about 2017, some of it plausible, a lot of it completely bonkers. I'm predicting that 2017 will be a huge year for Matt Hardy and what he's trying to build. I personally think that part three of Apocalypto will finally see a lot of big names coming in to take part, (hopefully with some really great surprises). But the main thing about the year we'll see, (or rather I'm hoping for), is the continued evolution of this character and the casual fans getting behind him as well. Which he in all honestly deserves since it's hard to create a character that appeals to the masses everywhere that's not in WWE. But I guess that's why the rumors of them wanting him seem to be everywhere.

Regardless of what TNA is doing with its company, or what WWE is doing with theirs, Matt Hardy has created a character so dynamic that everywhere he goes he literally gets a major reaction; that's saying a lot. He's managed to transcend any troubles that may seem on the horizon for him monetary wise and made fans look at all the great things that he's trying to create within that situation. Not once did I see anyone make fun of TNA during the Tag Team Apocalypto broadcast, it was mostly praises or critiques. Either way you chop it, the show was polarizing enough to get a major reaction. That within itself is just amazing given everything that's going on in the industry right now.

But that's just the Broken Brilliance of a man who's determined to show it all to you.
